WD SMARTWARE VIRTUAL CD MANAGER NO DEVICE FOUND UPDATE
It said that it wouldn’t work with the firmware I have installed and that I should update it. My drive appeared in the drop-down menu, but the “configure” button was grayed out. That worked until I got to the screen where you select the drive. I’m assuming that WD hasn’t updated the website for these new drives and that the posted firmware are for different drives altogteher? I have tried connecting the drive via USB and Firewire (800 and 400) and nothing’s helping.Īny help would be much appreciated! I’m starting to get irritated my the VCD from mounting every time I start my Mac.

When running the updater, i get the error “No Western Digital Essential or Elite Device Found. No WD Essential or Elite devices were detected on the USB bus.” I’ve also tried to update the firmware and disable the VCD in Windows 7 as well and I get similar errors. So i proceeded to update the firmware of the drive. I downloaded WD Virtual CD manager 1003 from the WD website and it told me that the firmware in my drive was out of date (the drive’s firmware version is 1.004). I followed the instructions on the WD support website. I’ve been trying to prevent the Smartware CD from mounting everytime I boot my computer.

Tried VCD Manager 1.0.8.3 and 1.0.7.4, same issueĭrive firmware revision (after update) is 2.019 (current latest version).I’ve just bought myself a 1TB My Book Studio and I’m having some issue with Smartware. The OSes of both PCs tried are Windows 7, one is the Ultimate edition, the other is the Starter edition, both are 32-bit. Tried the VCD manager in two different PCs, still got the same issue. Note: I got this drive as a gift so I did not buy it knowing that it had an unremoveable software/virtual CD.ĭrive file system is NTFS (the default the drive came with)
WD SMARTWARE VIRTUAL CD MANAGER NO DEVICE FOUND SOFTWARE
So before I copy the contents of this hard disk to another drive and try to find disk space for it, to temporarily hold its contents while I have it replaced, are there other methods I can try to hide or remove the virtual CD drive and other WD software in the disk? I tried it again in another computer, but the same issue happens. I contacted WD tech support and the final message was either to to try it again in another computer or have it replaced. When I tried the instructions to “Disable/Enable VCD with SmartWare Installed”, at Step 5, “Click on the Virtual CD button on the left side of the screen.”, there is no Virtual CD button on the left side of the screen and I can’t continue. I then tried the instructions in this link:, “How to remove (disable / hide) WD SmartWare Virtual CD (VCD) for Windows…”. It keeps on stating “Please connect a WD SmartWare Drive to continue then click Rescan”. I have been able to update the firmware fine (Step 1) but when I go to step 2 (Download and Run the VCD Manager), the VCD manager can not detect the drive even if I have already plugged it in my computer and the files stored in it can be accessed. I tried the steps to hide the “VCD manager” indicated in the WD website in this URL: I found out that it can not be removed, but it can be hidden. I want to remove the virtual CD drive that it mounts as I do not use the features of that virtual CD nor any other WD software. I have a My Passport Essential 250 GB WD hard disk.
